LA Galaxy midfielder Uriel Antuna added to Mexico’s 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup Roster

LOS ANGELES (Friday, June 14, 2019) – Mexican National Team Manager Gerardo "Tata" Martino has added LA Galaxy midfielder Uriel Antuna to Mexico’s 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup roster. Antuna will take the place of an injured Jorge Sanchez.


Antuna was named to Mexico’s preliminary Gold Cup roster on May 14 along with LA Galaxy midfielder Jonathan dos Santos. Antuna appeared in both of Mexico’s matches ahead of Gold Cup play, tallying an assist in Mexico’s 3-1 win over Venezuela on June 5, and started in their 3-2 win over Ecuador on June 9.


As a part of Group A, Antuna, Dos Santos and Mexico will begin the tournament on Saturday, June 15 when they face Cuba at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California at 7 p.m. PT. They then will face Canada at on June 19 at Broncos Stadium in Denver, Colorado and round out their group stage with a game against Martinique on June 23 at Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.


Dos Santos and Antuna have been regular fixtures this season for the Galaxy in helping the team to the third-best record in MLS so far. Antuna is the only field player for the Galaxy to have started every game this season. He’s recorded two goals and two assists in 16 contests. Dos Santos has made 15 appearances, all starts, while scoring two goals and notching an assist.


The LA Galaxy are next in action when they travel to face Portland Timbers on Wednesday, June 19 in the U.S. Open Cup Round of 16.
