Los Angeles' Gonzalez to serve one-game suspension

Galaxy defender Omar Gonzalez will serve a one-game suspension for an accumulation of yellow cards and must sit out of Los Angeles’ Saturday matchup against New England.

Gonzalez’s fifth caution, earned during the Galaxy’s 1-0 loss to Real Salt Lake on June 9, was originally tacked on to Todd Dunivant. However, after careful review by US Soccer at the request of MLS, it was determined that Gonzalez was the recipient of the 84th minute yellow.

The defender's suspension couldn’t have come with a more convenient opponent lined up for the Galaxy. New England are going through a terrible spell and have had trouble mounting any sort of threatening offense in their last few games, so it is unlikely that a defensively solid Galaxy squad will have much difficulty holding off their Eastern Conference foes.

Gonzalez will be eligible to reappear for Los Angeles following this weekend’s game.
