LA Galaxy captain Robbie Keane tips Steven Gerrard to have quick success in MLS | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – No international Designated Player has had more success in Major League Soccer than Robbie Keane, and the LA Galaxy’s Irish forward believes that new signing Steven Gerrard will follow a similar example when he finally takes the field for the club.

Immediately after joining the Galaxy in 2011, Keane made an immediate impact with three goals en route to the 2011 MLS Cup title. Since moving to LA in 2011, 59 goals  and 39 assists in 95 career MLS appearances.

As Gerrard prepares to chart a similar path, Keane believes that the grit that served him well with Liverpool and England will help the Englishman in his adaptation to MLS.

“It’s in his nature. It’s just the way he is,” said Keane. “He wants to do well, and he wants to settle straight away. I think for him now, when you come to a new club is by playing games and winning games. As soon as he plays more games, he’ll be settled in.”

As of whether Gerrard plays on Saturday, the Galaxy captain is confident that LA’s newest Englishman will see the field against Club America.

“He’s obviously going to play in that game,” Keane said. It’ll be good for him to get a feel for the players because you can do as much training as you want but playing in a game is the only way that you’re going to get used to how everyone plays.”
