Galaxy sign defender Dave Romney from Galaxy II

CARSON, Calif. (Wednesday, August 5, 2015) - The LA Galaxy have signed defender Dave Romney from LA Galaxy II, the club announced today. Romney, who has appeared 17 times for Galaxy II in USL this season, becomes the first LA Galaxy II player in history to sign an MLS contract with the Galaxy. Per club and MLS policy, exact terms of the deal were not disclosed.


“Dave is an athletic and versatile defender who provides depth to our backline,” Arena said. “Curt Onalfo has done a tremendous job developing players with LA Galaxy II and we are excited to see Dave continue to develop as a player.”


Romney had featured extensively with LA Galaxy II in USL this season to help lead them to a tie for first place in the USL Western Conference standings before signing with LA Galaxy. He made his first-team debut in the MLS on Saturday, July 25 in Houston on loan fromLos Dos after making two International Champions Cup showings against Club America and FC Barcelona. Los Dos forward Ariel Lassiter and defender Daniel Steres also made their LA Galaxy debuts with Romney, becoming the first players to ever record first-team minutes while on loan with LA Galaxy II.


Born and raised in Irvine, California, Romney played in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy with the Irvine Strikers. He attended the University of San Francisco, where he earned multiple honors during his four-year standout career, including All-West Coast Conference Second Team (2014), West Coast Conference All-Academic Team (2014), West Coast Conference All-Academic Team Honorable Mention (2013), All-West Coast Conference Honorable Mention (2012, 2011) and 2011 West Coast Conference All-Freshman Team. In total, Romney played in 72 games during his career, including starting in all 19 games during his Senior season.
