CARSON, Calif. -- Ahead of the most star-studded clash in Major League Soccer history, LA Galaxy midfielder Steven Gerrard admits that he has been pleasantly surprised with the level of his new league during his brief time with the Galaxy.

In five games with the defending MLS Cup champions, Gerrard has made five starts tallying a goal and two assists with the club. Gerrard will once again patrol the center of the park on Sunday when the Galaxy host New York City FC.

Ahead of the NYCFC match, Gerrard was questioned about the level of MLS and had nothing but high marks for the 20-year-old league.

"A lot better than what I thought," said Gerrard. "It surprised me. The level is very good. The level is a lot stronger than what other people suggested when I came. I've been really surprised. We've got a very good team here, I'm playing for the champions and they know how to win.

"I'm very happy with my teammates and the level of my team. I'm not really interested in any one else's team. We're in a good place, we've got everyone fit and available. We're very strong, Teams are going to have to play well to beat LA Galaxy."

Immediately after his response, the English soccer legend was asked: 'could the Galaxy compete in England?' His response was foreceful and immediate.
"For sure," said Gerrard.
