Forward Robbie Keane and Defender A.J. DeLaGarza called up for international duty

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, Aug. 31, 2015) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane and A.J. DeLaGarza have been called up for international duty with their respective countries. Keane will join Ireland for UEFA European Championship 2016 Qualifying Round matches against Gibraltar (Friday, Sept. 4) and Georgia (Monday, Sept. 7). DeLaGarza joins Guam for 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches against Iran (Thursday, Sept. 3) and Oman (Tuesday, Sept. 8).


Both Keane and DeLaGarza will return to the Galaxy ahead of the team’s next MLS match, Saturday, Sept. 12 at StubHub Center against the Montreal Impact (7:30 p.m. PT, Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Time Warner Cable Deportes).
Keane, 35, is Ireland’s captain and leads Ireland for the most goals and appearances all time. He has helped Ireland to earn 9 points from six matches in Group D of EURO 2016 Qualifying. This year in MLS, Keane has recorded 16 goals and seven assist in just 18 MLS appearances, giving him an MLS best .89 goals per 90 minutes for players who have recorded over 500 minutes. He now has 68 goals and 42 assists in just 102 MLS appearances all time for LA. 
DeLaGarza, 27, joins Guam after helping his country make history earlier this year recorded their first-ever FIFA World Cup Qualifying victories with wins over Turkmenistan and India. Since committing his international career to Guam in 2013, the Galaxy defender has made six appearances internationally. This year in MLS play, DeLaGarza has made 19 appearances and 17 starts overall for the Galaxy.
Keane and DeLaGarza join defender Omar Gonzalez (USMNT), Gyasi Zardes (USMNT) and Oscar Sorto (U.S. U-23 MNT) on international duty during the Galaxy’s break in MLS play this weekend.
