LA Galaxy Academy U-16 midfielder Efrain Alvarez produced a fantastic free-kick finish during the Galaxy’s dramatic victory over the Philadelphia Union U-16’s this weekend.
With the score between the two sides tied at 2-2, 13-year-old Alvarez delivered a beautiful, curling free kick from 28 yards out that sailed into the upper right corner. The Union quickly equalized to bring the score to 3-3, but Jonathan Estrada notched a dramatic stoppage time winner to give the Galaxy U-16’s a 4-3 win.
The U-16’s dropped their final match of the Winter Showcase on Monday, falling 1-0 to Crew Wolves. Despite the loss, the group finished the showcase with a 2-1-0 record and remains second in the Western Conference. Meanwhile, the U-18’s completed the showcase with a 1-1-1 record, and are currently in third place in the Western Conference.
