Santos Laguna defeat Chiapas 1-0 for first victory of the Liga MX campaign | INSIDER

Santos Laguna

Santos Laguna earned their first victory of the 2016 Clausura campaign on Friday, with a 1-0 win over Chiapas at the Estadio Corona.

Andres Renteria scored the game's only goal in the 59th minute that gave Santos their opening win of the tournament. The tally came when Bryan Rabello played a backheel pass to Renteria at the top of the box. Renteria then dribbled through a defender, before firing a shot into the back of the Chiapas' net.

Former Portland Timbers left back Jorge Villafana earned his first start for the Guerreros, going 90 minutes in the victory. Santos played the match without suspended head coach Luis Zubeldía, who was red carded during the Guerreros' 2-0 defeat to Leon a week earlier.

The Guerreros will look to win their second straight match when they travel to face Club Tijuana on January 22 at the Estadio Caliente.
