CARSON, Calif. -- Former LA Galaxy defender Tommy Meyer signed with Sporting Kansas City affiliate Swope Park Rangers, the USL club announced on Monday.

Meyer, who was released by the Galaxy in December, joins the inaugural USL club after four seasons in Los Angeles. The 25-year-old defender made 41 appearances for the Galaxy in MLS competition while also playing in a total of 12 matches for USL affiliate LA Galaxy II.

“I’m excited about a new opportunity and challenge with the Swope Park Rangers,” Meyer said in a statement. “I’m looking forward to getting together with the team and having a productive preseason to prepare us for a good start to the campaign.”

The Missouri-native won two titles with the Galaxy during his time with the club, starting each game during the team's 2012 MLS Cup run.
