The last time Santos Laguna faced an MLS side in CONCACAF Champions League | INSIDER

Santos Laguna

Facing competition from Major League Soccer is nothing new for Santos Laguna.

On Wednesday, the Galaxy will take on the Guerreros in the first leg of their CONCACAF Champions League quarterfinal series with Los Angeles at StubHub Center. The two teams will follow it up a week later when Santos host the Galaxy at the Estadio Corona on March 1.  The two matches will be Santos' first games back in the CCL knockout round stage since their run to the 2012-13 Champions League final which featured a defeat of Seattle Sounders FC in the semifinal round.

Back in 2013, Santos and Seattle were the second and third seeds respectively with each side holding hopes of reaching the final. Santos struck first blood as they defeated Seattle 1-0 in a cagey match at CenturyLink Field thanks to a goal by U.S. international Herculez Gomez. In the second leg in Torreon, Santos again went ahead with Darwin Quintero scoring early before Lamar Neagle tallied for the Sounders. Seattle was unable to complete the comeback with Santos going ahead 2-1 on aggregate.

Santos' went through to the final where they faced C.F. Monterrey, who knocked out the Galaxy in their semifinal series. Monterrey went on to lift the title with 4-2 aggregate victory over the Guerreros
