LA Galaxy announce local broadcast schedule and on-air talent for 2016 MLS Season

TWC

CARSON, Calif. (Monday, March 7, 2016) – The LA Galaxy announced today their complete local television schedule for the 2016 MLS Regular Season, including details on the comprehensive programming and live game coverage that will air on Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes. As the exclusive, local TV homes of the LA Galaxy, Time Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes bring fans unrivaled, depth and exclusive access shows produced especially for the team’s fan base.

Live LA Galaxy game coverage is set to kick off on Timer Warner Cable SportsNet and Time Warner Cable Deportes this Saturday, March 12 at 4 p.m. PT against the Colorado Rapids. The networks enter their fifth season as the exclusive local home of the LA Galaxy, with each network airing 17 Galaxy matches with full pre and post-game coverage from both StubHub Center and on the road.

The LA Galaxy and Time Warner Cable SportsNet also announced that LA Galaxy legend Landon Donovan and former Galaxy star Clint Mathis will join the network as studio analysts. Donovan, the all-time leader in goals for both LA Galaxy and Major League Soccer, will make his television debut on May 11th – and make select studio appearances throughout the season, while Mathis will serve as the lead studio analyst making his debut on March 12th. Live LA Galaxy studio programming on Time Warner Cable SportNet will be led by Access SportsNet: Galaxy, which airs thirty minutes prior to kick-off.  The program will feature complete pre-match coverage as studio host Chris McGee will be joined by Clint Mathis. Mathis, who served as the studio analyst for Time Warner Cable SportsNet in 2013, played four seasons with the Galaxy (98, 99, 2000 and 2010) and won a MLS Cup with Real Salt Lake in 2009.  Mathis also played on the US national team from 1998–2005.  Kelli Tennant will also co-host Access SportsNet: Galaxy on road matches.  Following every game, McGee and Mathis will have complete highlights and analysis with Tennant providing live post-match interviews with Galaxy players and coaches.

Returning as the lead play-by-play announcer on Time Warner Cable SportsNet is Joe Tutino, who enters his third season in that role. The broadcast veteran previously served as the radio voice of the Galaxy from 2003-14, and worked in both Galaxy TV and radio from 1999-2002. After beginning his career as the public address announcer during the Galaxy’s inaugural match in 1996, Tutino has been in the broadcast booth for all matches outside the 1996 season.

Alongside Tutino will be Galaxy legend Cobi Jones, who is returning for a fifth-straight season as the network’s lead analyst. The all-time leader in games played for both the Galaxy and the U.S. National Team, Jones spent 12 seasons playing for the Galaxy before joining the club’s coaching staff following the 2007 campaign. The two-time MLS Cup winner joined Time Warner Cable SportsNet in 2012.

Kelli Tennant rounds out the on-air talent for Time Warner Cable SportsNet Galaxy games as the network’s sideline reporter for all home games. Prior to joining Time Warner Cable SportsNet, Tennant, a former standout volleyball player at USC, worked at various sports broadcasts entities including ESPN, Fox Sports, the Pac-12 Network, Trojan TV All-Access, Longhorn Network, the Association of Volleyball Professionals (AVP) and E! News.

At Time Warner Cable Deportes, Martin “El Pulpo” Zúñiga returns to the on-air team as the lead soccer analyst for the network.  Known for his 14-year career as a professional soccer player in Mexico and the United States, Zúñiga is a well-respected voice in the MLS and on the international soccer stage. Samuel Jacobo will again join Zúñiga with the play-by-play action.

Original programming returning on the networks is the Emmy Award-winning series, Backstage: Galaxy and Galaxy Confidencial, the documentary-style series that will again take fans inside the locker room and on the road with the team all season long. Each network will air 21 exclusive episodes during the 2015 season.  The 2016 season premiere of Backstage: Galaxy will kick off on Saturday, March 12 at 7:00 p.m.

Other programming on Time Warner Cable SportsNet includes Timeless Galaxy, re-telecasts of classic Galaxy games enhanced with social media interaction, bonus commentary on “Encore+,” and the network’s signature interview series “Connected With…”
