CARSON, Calif. (Monday, March 21, 2016) – LA Galaxy forward Robbie Keane and defender A.J. DeLaGarza have been called up to their respective national teams for March contests. Keane will join Ireland for a pair of friendlies in Ireland while DeLaGarza will represent Guam in a 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying match.
Keane and Ireland will take on Switzerland on Friday, March 25, at Aviva Stadium in Dublin, Ireland before hosting Slovakia on Tuesday, March 29. Guam will face Oman on Thursday, March 24, at Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman. Both players will return to the Galaxy ahead of the team’s next MLS match on Saturday, April 2, on the road against the Vancouver Whitecaps.
Keane, 35, is Ireland’s captain and leader for the most goals and appearances all time for his country. This season for the Galaxy, Keane has notched two goals in three appearances, bringing his MLS total to 75 goals in regular season competitions. In all competitions for LA, Keane has tallied 96 goals through 147 appearances, just four shy of reaching 100 goals in all competitions in the fewest amount games played by any MLS player.
DeLaGarza, 28, will join Guam as they continue in their 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying campaign in Group D. Guam sit in fourth place in the group with seven points total while Oman is in second with 11 points. The LA Galaxy defender has represented Guam since 2013, making over 10 appearances. This year for LA, the two-time LA Galaxy Defender of the Year has started in two matches. In all, DeLaGarza has made 182 appearances in MLS play.
