LA Galaxy midfielder Emmanuel Boateng named MLS Player of the Week

LA Galaxy midfielder Emmanuel Boateng has been voted Major League Soccer Player of the Week by the North American Soccer Reporters (NASR) for the eighth week of the 2016 MLS season.

Boateng earns Player of the Week honors for his performance in the Galaxy’s 5-2 win over Real Salt Lake Saturday at StubHub Center. The Ghana native recorded the game-winning goal and two assists in just his second-ever MLS start.

With LA and RSL tied at 1-1 in the first half, Boateng recorded his first assist of the season on Mike Magee’s goal in the 26th minute. Just over 10 minutes later, Boateng recorded his first MLS goal when he finished a ball past goalkeeper Nick Rimando just in front of net to make the score 3-1. Just before halftime, the speedy winger capped off his half with another assist, this time to Giovani dos Santos, to make the score 4-1 heading into the break.

Boateng’s POTW recognition marks the second-straight week the award was given to an LA Galaxy player and the third time this season. Forward Giovani dos Santos earned honors last week and forward Mike Magee was named POTW in the first week of the 2016 MLS season.

The MLS Player of the Week is selected each week of the regular season by a panel of journalists from NASR. The group consists of members of print, television, radio and online media.

The LA Galaxy are in action next when they travel to Children’s Mercy Park where they will take on Sporting Kansas City this Sunday, May 1 (8:00 p.m. ET., FS1/FOX Deportes).
