California Clásico to air on Univision Network on June 25 in Heineken Rivalry Edición Especial

On the heels of an exciting Heineken Rivalry Week, Major League Soccer today announced the addition of Heineken Rivalry Edición Especial, featuring the California Clásico match between the San Jose Earthquakes and LA Galaxy on Saturday, June 25 at Stanford Stadium, 10 p.m. ET.  The match will now air live on Univision Network and UDN (Univision Deportes Network), the No. 1 Spanish-Language sports network, marking the first time an MLS match has aired on the Univision network since 1999.

The San Jose vs. Galaxy MLS match will serve as the second game of a soccer double-header that kicks off at 8 p.m. ET with the third-place game of Copa America Centenario – the biggest men’s soccer tournament to be held in the U.S. since the 1994 World Cup.

For the fifth consecutive year, more than 50,000 fans are expected to come out for the rivalry game at Stanford Stadium to watch one of MLS’ most storied rivalries between two of the winningest teams in League history with seven MLS Cup championships won between the two clubs.

The special edition of Heineken Rivalry Week will see the third and final meeting of the two clubs in 2016 regular season play. The Galaxy have an edge in the 2016 edition courtesy of a 3-1 victory on March 19 and a 1-1 tie on May 22.  Giovani dos Santos, Steven Gerrard and Chris Wondolowski are just a few of the current stars that join the historic rank of world-class players that have participated in this rivalry including: Landon Donovan, David Beckham, Alexi Lalas, and Eric Wynalda.
