The four most memorable LA Galaxy Fourth of July moments | INSIDER

Robbie Keane

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will play their 21st consecutive match on the Fourth of July on Monday when they take on Vancouver Whitecaps FC.

Throughout their two decades of playing on Independence Day, the Galaxy have compiled plenty of unforgettable moments during their history.

The top four Fourth of July moments can be found below.

ROBBIE KEANE’S HAT TRICK

Robbie Keane set a club record for most goals on the Fourth of July when he notched a hat trick in the Galaxy’s 4-0 over Toronto FC in 2015.

Keane was a threat each time he touched the ball, scoring three times as the Galaxy dominated Toronto. The Irishman has scored five goals and one assist in four career matches on the Fourth of July.

Could Keane add some more fireworks this year? The Irishman is expected to be available for Monday’s game.

JUNINHO HAS “NO REGARD FOR HUMANITY”

Former LA Galaxy midfielder Juninho scored one of the club’s most impressive goals on July 4, 2010, when he launched a 35-yard blast against Seattle Sounders FC.

The Brazilian midfielder had a penchant for scoring long-range blasts, but his finish in the win over Seattle might be his finest. Juninho’s goal came in the 48th minute when he unleashed right-footed shot into the top corner past Seattle goalkeeper Kasey Keller.

Juninho ended his tenure with the Galaxy in 2015 with 18 goals and 23 assists.

CARLOS RUIZ BRACE POWERS GALAXY PAST SAN JOSE

Carlos Ruiz notched two goals to help the Galaxy to a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Earthquakes in 2002.

With the Galaxy trailing by one, “El Pescadito” started the rally when he headed an Ezra Hendrickson cross past San Jose goalkeeper Joe Cannon. Ruiz saved the best finish for last when he fired an Alexi Lalas flick into the back of the net to seal the victory.

The match was the final Fourth of July match at the Rose Bowl before the team moved to StubHub Center.

FIRST EVER FOURTH OF JULY MATCH

The LA Galaxy played their first Fourth of July match back in 1996 at the Rose Bowl when they hosted the New England Revolution.

A total of 62,703 were in attendance as the Revolution earned a 1-0 victory over the Galaxy.

John Kerr scored the only goal in the 24th minute to give New England the win.
