On this day in 2007: David Beckham made his debut for the LA Galaxy

CARSON, Calif. – David Beckham began his LA Galaxy career nine-years ago today.


On this day in 2007, Beckham made his Galaxy debut in the club’s World Football Challenge friendly against English powerhouse Chelsea at StubHub Center. Beckham entered in the 78th minute, replacing current Galaxy forward Alan Gordon.

Chelsea ended up earning a 1-0 victory on a goal by John Terry, but Beckham’s debut provided the beginning for a successful five years with the Galaxy. Beckham ended his tenure with the club with two MLS Cup titles and signaled the start of the league’s designated player era.
