CARSON, Calif. – Mike Magee has played on some great LA Galaxy teams, but he believes that the 2016 edition could surpass them all.
On Sunday, Magee’s 80th minute sparked a rally as the Galaxy erased a two-goal deficit to secure a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls. Following the match, Galaxy players and head coach Bruce Arena lauded the team’s character to earn a result against a feisty Red Bulls squad.
After the Galaxy extended their unbeaten streak to eight games with another gritty showing, Magee, who won MLS Cups with the Galaxy in 2011 and 2012, said that he believes this team is equal—or possibly better—than those squads.
“It’s similar [to those 2011 and 2012 teams],” Magee said. “The actual soccer that we have on this team is better. Those groups had a lot of determination and fight, but it took a while to grow. This group came along a lot quicker.
“No reason that we can’t do something special this year.”
