LA Galaxy to honor the memory of LA Sheriff Sergeant Steve Owen as Hero of the Game | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy will pay tribute to a fallen hero during Wednesday’s Knockout Round match against Real Salt Lake.

The Galaxy will honor the memory of Los Angeles County Sherriff Sergeant Steve Owen of Lancaster as the club's Hero of the Game during the playoff match on Wednesday.

Owen, a highly decorated 29-year department veteran, was tragically slain while responding to a residential burglary call on Oct. 5.  He was survived by his wife Tania, adult sons Brandon and Chad, stepdaughter Shannon and mother Millie. On Oct. 13, hundreds gathered to mourn Owen, with an extensive motorcade that traveled Lancaster to his service, which was attended by droves of family, friends, and well-wishers.

"We're completely humbled that the Galaxy has taken the time to invite us to the game and honor, my dad. There are just no words to express our gratitude and thanks at the expression of love and outreach that the Galaxy organization has provided," said Chad Owen. "The community has helped tremendously, and everyone has been supportive with everything from helping my mom with yard work or help financially or emotionally. Everyone has our back and has been willing to help us get through this tragic time."
