CARSON, Calif. – For the first time in recent history, club teammates will line up on opposite sides of the USA-Mexico rivalry on Friday.

The LA Galaxy’s Giovani dos Santos will lead El Tri against the Jurgen Klinsmann’s United States’ squad which includes Dos Santos’ teammate Alan Gordon. Friday’s fixture will be the start of kick off the start of the final round of CONCACAF qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup for both sides.

Although the USA-Mexico rivalry is always a contentious one, Galaxy club President Chris Klein is overjoyed to have his club represented on both sides.

“It’s a big game and for us to have two players that are going to be involved is a great look for the Galaxy,” the Galaxy President said. “We’re obviously behind the United States and it’s a big game for our country and the sport of soccer in our country, but obviously, we want Gio to do well in the game. As our league continues to grow, we’ve got more players who are involved in national teams across CONCACAF, so it’s exciting to see those two square off.”
