Drew Murphy's North Carolina advance to the third round of the NCAA Tournament; UCLA eliminated | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. -- Drew Murphy's North Carolina will be carrying the LA Galaxy Academy banner for the remainder of the 2016 NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament.


Murphy was an unused substitute, but North Carolina moved on to the third round of the competition thanks to Tucker Hume's golden goal winner that helped the Tar Heels defeat Florida Gulf Coast University 2-1 after a thrilling 115 minutes. North Carolina will now travel to face Syracuse in the third round of the tournament with a berth in the quarterfinals on the line.

Elsewhere, the UCLA Bruins were eliminated from the competition after falling 2-1 to Louisville. Tate Schmitt scored a golden goal for the Cardinals in the 94th minute to send Louisville through to the third round. Galaxy Academy products Brian Iloski and Willie Raygoza each saw time in the Bruins' defeat.
