CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy head coach Curt Onalfo says that the club is “very close” to making further additions to the roster after announcing the trade of veteran defender A.J. DeLaGarza on Friday.
The Galaxy dealt the defender to the Dynamo in exchange for $125,000 in General Allocation Money and $50,000 in Targeted Allocation Money. As General Manager Pete Vagenas noted, trading a player who spent the last nine years with the club is never an easy move, but Onalfo said it was necessary to add to the roster.
“First of all, we love A.J. as a player and a person. Unfortunately, sometimes in sport, you have to make moves to create space to hopefully make your team better. That was the reasoning behind it. We’re grateful for the service that A.J. has done for this club. He’s a class act on and off the field. He’s a great player and we wish him all the best.”
The move is expected to pay dividends in the near future with Onalfo stating that the Galaxy are expecting to announce signings very soon.
“We’re in the process of signing players and in the coming days and coming week. You’ll see those plans come out,” said Onalfo. “We’re very close. We feel very good about the targets that we’ve gone after and I can’t comment on any of that because the deals aren’t quite done, but we feel confident in the plan that we have and the route that we’re taking to be a successful team.”
