Match Report: LA Galaxy drop preseason friendly to Portland Timbers, 2-1

CARSON, Calif.  â€“ Fanendo Adi scored a brace as the LA Galaxy fell 2-1 to the Portland Timbers in their final preseason game of 2017.

Adi scored on either side of the halftime whistle for the Timbers before Daniel Steres cut the defecit late in the second half. Curt Onalfo’s Galaxy squad end the preseason with a 2-2-1 record.

New Galaxy Designated Player Romain Alessandrini went 45 minutes in his second appearance for the club this preseason.

Los Angeles started the match on the front foot with the tandem of Ari Lassiter and Giovani dos Santos looking dangerous but the pair were unable to test Portland goalkeeper Jake Gleeson. The visitors found their goal in the 29th minute when a defensive breakdown by the Galaxy led to a breakaway for Adi who opened the scoring.

Alessandrini entered the match at the start the second half and immediately added an attacking spark for LA. However, it was the Timbers who doubled their lead in the 57th minute when Alessandrini appeared to be fouled in midfield sparking a Timbers counter attack that resulted in an Adi finish from close range.

Down a pair of goals, the Galaxy domuinated possession with Alessandrini and Sebastian Lletget each forcing Gleeson into action. The Galaxy finally broke through in the 81st minute when Alessandrini played in a free kick to Dave Romney that the defender headed onto the path of Steres for the finish.

The Galaxy open their 2017 MLS regular season campaign on Saturday March 4 when they host FC Dallas at StubHub Center. Kick off for the match against the reigning Supporters’ Shield holders is set for 1 pm PT and tickets can be purchased at www.LAGalaxy.com
