The LA Galaxy have signed former Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jon Kempin, the club announced today. Kempin, 23, joins LA Galaxy after six seasons with Sporting Kansas City, where he signed as the club’s first Homegrown Player in August 2010.

“Jon is a young player with potential that can provide us with valuable depth at the goalkeeper position,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Pete Vagenas. “He impressed during our preseason this year and we are excited to bring him on board.”

Kempin, from Overland Park, Kan., inked his first professional contract with the Kansas City Wizards at the age of 17, signing as a Generation Adidas player and becoming the youngest signee in team history. Kempin made nine appearances in all competitions for Sporting KC. In 2016, he made 12 starts for the SKC’s USL side, Swope Park Rangers.

At the beginning of 2015, Kempin was named to the United States Men’s National Team roster for the first time in his career to take part in manager Jurgen Klinsmann’s January Camp. He has also represented the U.S. at the Under-14 through Under-23 levels, last featuring for the U-23s in a friendly against Brazil on Nov. 11.
