CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, March 3, 2011) - With the LA Galaxy’s sixteenth MLS season less than two weeks away, the club announced today that it will head into the community next week with a series of events as part of the Galaxy Caravan - Countdown to Kickoff, which will begin on Monday, March 7 and conclude on Friday, March 11 with the 2011 LA Galaxy Luncheon presented by Herbalife, at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live.
“Featuring a variety of events, the Galaxy Caravan - Countdown to Kickoff is our club's way to build-up excitement to the season opener while at the same time celebrating Galaxy Soccer,” LA Galaxy President Tom Payne said. “We hope that this will be a great way to reach out to the community and get excited for our 2011 season.”
Along with official Caravan partner adidas, the Galaxy will have their players, staff, Miss LA Galaxy Court members and Galaxy Street Team active throughout the week engaging with fans, the public and media in order to thank them for their support and to raise awareness for the start of the 2011 MLS season.

Monday, March 7
The LA Galaxy have teamed up with the LA Kings for “Galaxy Night with the Kings” where a number of Galaxy players will be in attendance. The night will be filled with Galaxy-themed activities, starting with the ceremonial puck drop by a Galaxy player as well as Galaxy promotions and giveaways during timeouts and intermissions. The Kings Ice Crew will show their support by wearing Galaxy t-shirts and hats. There is a special ticket offer for Galaxy fans to come celebrate the start of the season and enjoy exciting Kings hockey.
Tuesday, March 8
LA Galaxy players will visit patients at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles to help spread a little cheer. Team members will be divided into groups and make room-to-room visits. Each patient will receive Galaxy gifts and the opportunity to take a photo and get an autograph from a Galaxy player.
Wednesday, March 9
LA Galaxy player to help The Home Depot and Univision make a family’s dream for their twin sons to live in a soccer-themed bedroom a reality. In addition, Galaxy players along with Miss LA Galaxy Court Members and the Galaxy Street Team will also be going in-studio to local media outlets CBS/KCAL, Telemundo, KWHY Ch. 22 and FS West to raise awareness of the start of the Galaxy and MLS season.
Thursday, March 10
Galaxy players will be at multiple events, one of which includes the only Caravan stop at the team’s stadium, The Home Depot Center from 5:30-6:30 p.m. Players will sign autographs in front of the Team LA Store, where fans will have the opportunity to check out and purchase Galaxy merchandise. The first 200 fans will receive a 25% discount to the Team LA store which will be open until 8 p.m. with extended store hours. Members of the Miss LA Galaxy Court and the Galaxy Street Team will be on-site as well.
Galaxy players will be making a surprise visit at a local youth soccer practice in the greater Los Angeles area.
Friday, March 11:
The 2011 LA Galaxy Luncheon presented by Herbalife will be hosted at the ESPN Zone at L.A. Live at 12 p.m. to benefit the Los Angeles Galaxy Foundation. The luncheon serves as the first opportunity for Galaxy supporters to meet the 2011 team, get the inside track on the upcoming season from Head Coach and General Manager Bruce Arena and hear from Galaxy Captain Landon Donovan. In addition to meeting the team, the luncheon includes an introduction of the Galaxy broadcast talent and a short program. Each attendee will receive a Galaxy t-shirt and luncheon gift. The LA Galaxy will open the 2011 MLS season on Tuesday, March 15 when they head to Seattle to take on the Seattle Sounders FC at Qwest Field at 6:30 p.m. in MLS First Kick 2011, presented by Dick’s Sporting Goods. The game will be shown live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes as well as online at ESPN3.com.
