CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, July 7, 2011) – The LA Galaxy will be collecting new or gently used soccer gear this Saturday prior to the club’s game against the Chicago Fire at 7:30 p.m. at The Home Depot Center. Fans are encouraged to help give the gift of soccer by donating new or gently used soccer gear such as jerseys, shorts, shoes, balls and shin guards. All equipment can be dropped off at any Drive Series collection booth located outside each entrance at The Home Depot Center on the day of the match. Donated equipment will be distributed to children and organizations that assist underserved areas.
All fans that donate soccer equipment will receive a buy one, get one free voucher for the Galaxy’s game against the Columbus Crew on July 20, while the first 200 donors will receive a player card signed by Galaxy defender Sean Franklin.
Saturday’s equipment drive is the first of four similar events that the club will hold over the second half of the 2011 MLS season as part of the Galaxy Drive Series, which is a community initiative where the Galaxy assist Los Angeles area youth and local non-profit organizations. In addition to this weekend’s equipment drive, the club will also host a school supply drive, a food drive and clothing drive. The complete schedule for the Galaxy Drive Series can be found below…

|The Galaxy will collect new school supplies to help children start the school year with the tools they need for academic success.|
|September 17||LA Galaxy vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC||7:30 p.m.||Food Drive|
|As part of Hunger Action Month, the Galaxy will ask fans to donate non-perishable, food items such as canned vegetables, peanut butter, canned meats (i.e. tuna, chicken, spam), canned fruits and spaghetti to benefit the Los Angeles Regional Foodbank.|
|October 1||LA Galaxy vs. Real Salt Lake||7:30 p.m.||Clothing Drive|
|The Galaxy will collect new or gently-used clothes and shoes for the Union Rescue Mission, who will then distribute the items to children and families in need. Fans are encouraged to donate items such as coats, maternity clothing, sweatshirts, scarves, hats, gloves, socks and shoes.|
