CARSON, Calif. --- Mexican soccer legend Cuauhtémoc Blanco is hanging up his cleats once and for all.
The three-time World Cup player for Mexico announced earlier this year that he will retire after the 2015 Copa MX final that will pit his Puebla F.C. against vaunted Chivas de Guadalajara, in order to pursue a career in Politics. A soccer legend for his performances with El Tri and Club America, Blanco became a force in Major League Soccer during a threeyear stint with the Chicago Fire.
During his three seasons in Chicago, Blanco crossed paths with current Galaxy midfielder Baggio Husidic who was played with the Mexican star during the 2009 season.
"Temo was awesome," said It was pretty cool to be able to play with such a good player. ... For me, he's probably the most exciting Mexican player to ever play in the league."
Called "Bayo" by the former Mexican international, the most lasting memory that Husidic has of Blanco was his very first interaction.
"He was an absolute prankster. My rookie year, I roomed with him for preseason and I was coming into the team super nervous. We were in Querétaro and I walk in [the room], I saw bags on the floor but there was no one anywhere. All of a sudden, he pops out of the closet and tackles me onto the bed, and starts speaking in Spanish. He spoke such slang that you could barely understand his Spanish."
