Born in Hong Kong and raised in Torrance, California, Ryo Fujii joined LA Galaxy II after playing one season for UC Santa Barbra in 2014, where he earned 2014 Big West All-Freshman Team after logging over 1,200 minutes and recording two assists in his first season with the team. The midfielder was a member of the Galaxy Academy during the 2013-14 season, making 28 appearances and scoring five goals for the LA Galaxy Academy U-18’s to help his squad to a first-place finish in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy U-18 Division. Fujii was also a four-year varsity member at Torrance High School, where Top Drawer Soccer recognized him as one of the top midfielders in the country.
LA Galaxy II provided Fujii with the financial resources to enroll at Cal State Dominguez Hills, located directly adjacent to StubHub Center, in order to continue his collegiate education after attending UC Santa Barbara in 2014.

What is your favorite thing about your career?
Learning every day and becoming better.
What was your reasoning on your decision to leave UCSB?
“I just love soccer and wanted to be in a soccer-based world. I feel like this decision was the best for me to become better as a player, and to grow and learn because I am still young. To get better and become what I want to be, what I’ve dreamt of becoming, I know this was the best decision for me.”
What are some of your favorite memories from your days as a beginner?
“Ball hogging. When I would take corner kicks, I would always try to score from the corner kicks instead of crossing it and it would just go out.”
How have you found your transition into Los Dos?
“It’s been pretty good. Sometimes it’s rough and it’s a learning experience, and I do feel that I’m learning every day and getting better every day. I feel like I’ve added more to my strengths, so it’s been good.”
How has USL developed over the years?
“With more competitions, a higher level, more teams. I think maybe in the next two to three years it will just get even better.”
What do you look forward to accomplishing in your future?
“Playing on the first team, and just becoming a noticeable player in LA -- I love LA.”
What do you do on your own time?
“Relax mainly, hang out with friends. And playing FIFA with Ari [Lassiter], he plays 24/7 so it’s hard to beat him. I’ve only beaten him once or twice.”
