Three Points: LA Galaxy narrowly defeat FC Dallas at home, 3-2

CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Points to the Galaxy’s 3-2 victory over FC Dallas.

SCORING DROUGHT ENDS

The LA Galaxy returned to their goal scoring ways on Sunday in their 3-2 win over FC Dallas.

The Galaxy’s scoring drought was halted at 290 minutes when Giovani dos Santos expertly placed a Gyasi Zardes’ pass into the back of the FC Dallas net. LA’s last goal was Robbie Keane’s tally in the 71st minute of the clubs’ 5-1 rout of New York City FC on Aug. 23.

After going three games without a goal, the Galaxy found the back of the net again just three minutes later when Robbie Keane scored his 16th goal of the 2015 season. Steven Gerrard added a third in the 57th minute. Gerrard’s goal marked the first time that the Galaxy’s three current Designated Players all scored in the same match.

STEVIE G COMES ALIVE

Steven Gerrard’s LA Galaxy career has been stuck in neutral since his incredible start in July, but the Galaxy designated player put forth his finest showing in an LA uniform in Sunday’s win.

The 35-year-old scored for the first time since his Galaxy debut on July 17 when he smashed a rebound off FC Dallas goalkeeper Jesse Gonzalez for the goal. Gerrard’s contributions weren’t limited to offense, however, as the Englishman repeatedly made timely recoveries to halt Dallas’ forays forward.

With the postseason looming and the Galaxy in the thick of the Supporters’ Shield chase, an in-from Gerrard is good news for Bruce Arena and company.

LA GALAXY IN POLE POSITION FOR THE SUPPORTERS’ SHIELD

What slump? The LA Galaxy are back on the top of the Major League Soccer standings with their 3-2 victory over FC Dallas on Sunday.

After 31 games, the Galaxy find themselves with 50 points which is two ahead of second-place Vancouver Whitecaps FC and New York Red Bulls in the chase for the MLS Supporters’ Shield. The defending MLS Cup champions have just three games remaining to win their first regular season title since 2011.

The Galaxy can solidify their position next week when they make their first trip to Century Link Field in a nearly a year for a match with archrival Seattle Sounders FC.
