Guam's hopes of qualifying for the 2018 FIFA World Cup took a major blow on Thursday as the Matao fell 1-0 to India in Bangalore.

Robin Singh scored the lone goal for India in the 10th minute to give the Blue Tigers their first victory in 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifying. LA Galaxy defender A.J. DeLaGarza started and went 90 minutes for Guam.

Guam was given a lifeline in the 43rd minute when India went down to 10 men after a hard challenge by Sehnaj Singh resulted in a red card from the official. After earning the man advantage, Guam threw numbers forward but could not capitalize. The closest that the Matao came to tying the score was in the 76th minute when Ryan Guy appeared to score the equalizer off a corner kick only to have the linesman negate the goal by stating that the ball had sailed out of bounds on the set piece delivery.

The Matao will look to keep their dreams of the World Cup alive on Monday when they host Asian power Iran at 9:30 p.m. PT.
