Stade Saputo – Montreal, Canada

LA GALAXY GENERAL MANAGER AND HEAD COACH BRUCE ARENA
On how disappointing the result is for the Galaxy:

“It’s very disappointing. Not only of the mistake at the end of the game, but I thought on the night we played pretty poorly. It’s a game where we could have left here with some points, a point or even three points and we played poorly. We deserved what happened in the end, we weren’t good enough on the night.”

LA GALAXY MIDFIELDER STEVEN GERRARD
On the performance:

“We got ourselves to blame for the result over the 90 minutes. We turned over possession too many times, and we made this a very difficult game. We should have won this game comfortably, so we’re disappointed in the performance as a whole.”

On not controlling possession:

“There was a lot of space out there, maybe that’s why it’s disappointing that we didn’t control the game an awful lot better. They were dangerous on the counter-attack, but we were giving them counter-attacks by our sloppy possession.”

LA GALAXY DEFENDER DANIEL STERES
On Montreal’s tactics:

“I think they wanted us to play in their half and we kind of did it by going all forward. I think we left some holes in the back. They’ve got speed and players like [Didier] Drogba, [Ignacio] Piatti and [Dominic] Oduro. It’s tough to handle them when they’re coming at you on the counter.”

On handling the result:

“We’re going to take it on the chin. We’re going to get back to what we were doing, go back to the drawing board and get ready for Thursday.”

MONTREAL IMPACT HEAD COACH MAURO BIELLO
On the first half tactical adjustment:

“I thought [Steven] Gerrard and [Nigel] de Jong had way too much time on the ball. I wanted to invert our midfield and drop Nacho [Piatti] inside centrally, put [Dominic] Oduro on the left with [Lucas] Ontivero on the right and have [Kyle] Bekker pushed a little bit higher to allow the other midfielder to sit in there. I think it worked well for us.”

On securing the win:

“I think it was an important victory, that’s for sure. The emotions that we went through in this game weren’t easy. We were relieved with Drogba’s goal at the end of the game.”

On the slow start:

“At the start, we were a bit nervous at the back on the goal. It was a bad goal in which we made two big errors. These are things we still need to correct and to avoid in games.”

MONTREAL IMPACT MIDFIELDER PATRICE BERNIER
On the outcome:

“I thought finally the game went in our favour. We came back in the game, took the lead and then got scored on a couple of minutes after. We thought it was going to be a recurring story, but with the goal at the end we finally got the win.”

On getting back to winning ways:

“It feels good to get back to winning ways especially with the great crowd we had tonight. Now we need to take this win and keep pushing forward.”

MONTREAL IMPACT DEFENDER KYLE FISHER
On making his debut as a fullback:

“As the game got going, it was a bit different. When you keep it simple, you see it’s not much different. Defending is defending and the principles stay the same.”

On dealing with nerves:

“In warm-ups, it really hit me, but as the game kicked off and I was able to complete my first or second pass, it started to help out a little bit.”
