Mike Magee provides some quality banter ahead of LA Galaxy vs. Seattle | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – It’s no secret that the LA Galaxy and Seattle Sounders FC are fierce rivals.

Since Seattle entered Major League Soccer in 2009, the Sounders have challenged the Galaxy repeatedly for Western Conference supremacy. Los Angeles hold an 8-4-6 record in regular season play against the Sounders and have eliminated their Cascadian rivals three times from the MLS Cup Playoffs including two series victories in the Western Conference Finals.

Ahead of the first of three July meetings with the Sounders, Galaxy midfielder Mike Magee explained just what makes the rivalry so heated. His response

“When they came into the league, I think that they called us out. They thought they’d challenge us, and it didn’t work out well for them,” Magee said. “They’re still trying to be what the Galaxy is. They’re doing a great job. They have great fans and a great team, but I’d say, to be honest with you, they’re a little jealous.”

Defender A.J. DeLaGarza agrees.

“Since they came into the league eight years ago, there’s been battles in the playoffs, regular season games to win Supporters’ Shields, and we’ve been two of the best teams [in that span],” DeLaGarza said. “At times, it’s been really good soccer too which is why it’s been a big battle.

“I think they hate us more than we hate them, but everyone hates us, so we’re used to it.”
