Carli Lloyd goal puts United States past France in Olympic clash | INSIDER

Carli Lloyd

The United States earned their second straight victory of the 2016 Olympic Games on Saturday with a narrow 1-0 victory over France.

Carli Lloyd scored the only goal of the match in the 64th minute to give the Americans six points in Group G. The goal is Lloyd’s second of the tournament and the eighth of her Olympic career.

Goalkeeper Hope Solo made a number of big saves against a France side that dominated much of the first half. Solo’s strong showing came in her 200th appearance for the U.S. which helped her become the first goalkeeper, male or female, to reach the 200-cap mark in international play.

The U.S. advanced to the quarterfinals following a 2-2 draw in the Germany-Australia matchup, but will play their final group stage game on Tuesday when they face Colombia in Manaus.
