CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy saw their first glimpse of FC Dallas on Wednesday, and although, the visitors eliminated Los Angeles from the U.S. Open Cup, the Galaxy remain confident about how they stack up with their Western Conference rivals.

The Galaxy were five minutes from advancing to their first Open Cup final since the 2006 tournament until Dallas scored two identical set piece goals in the dying moments earn a 2-1 win in their U.S. Open Cup semifinal. The meeting was the first between the two Western Conference frontrunners, who will not play again, until late October.

“They are obviously good, [Mauro] Diaz is a special player,” Mike Magee said, singling out Diaz who tallied an assist on both Dallas goals. “They are fit and young and fast.”

Midfielder Baggio Husidic agreed with Magee’s assessment of FC Dallas, but with one caveat.

“They’re a good team. They’re very individually skilled,” Husidic said. “I thought we were the better team on the night and going forward; I’ll take our team over theirs.”
