Match Report: LA Galaxy open preseason play in 1-1 draw with Club Tijuana

The LA Galaxy opened the 2017 calendar year with a preseason exhibition match against Liga MX side Club Tijuana, earning a 1-1 draw at StubHub Center in front of a crowd of 9,150.


LA Galaxy forward Jose Villarreal provided the Galaxy’s only goal of the match when he tallied in the 52nd minute of the second half. The Xolos were awarded a penalty kick and equalized from the spot two minutes later.


The match marked the first under new head coach Curt Onalfo, who was appointed LA Galaxy Head Coach following the departure of Bruce Arena last season. Onalfo coached LA Galaxy II in USL during the club’s first three seasons.


The Galaxy will now travel to Cashman Field in Las Vegas for a contest against the San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday, Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. PT.


The LA Galaxy will open the 2017 MLS Regular Season at StubHub Center on Saturday, March 4, at 1 p.m. PT against FC Dallas.
