LA Galaxy II defeated Cal State Fullerton 3-0 in their first preseason scrimmage ahead of the 2017 USL season.
LA Galaxy trialist Miguel Aguilar scored on an assist from Ethan Zubak in the first half, while LA Galaxy Academy’s Jonah Estrada and an LA Galaxy II trialist each added a goal of their own in the second half. More important to LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz, however, was the defensive effort.
“For the past two weeks, all we’ve been working on were defensive principles,” Muñoz said. “To keep a shutout in the first game with a mix group of Galaxy II players, trialists and academy kids… I think you can check off objective number one.”
Muñoz acknowledged room for improvement, but was enthusiastic about what he saw in the team’s first outing.
“The vocabulary, the style and the vision that we have isn’t going to come out overnight especially with a lot of moving pieces,” Muñoz explained. “But I think you saw glimpses of everything that we’ve worked on for two weeks come out at really good moments today.”
With two weeks of preseason training in the books, Los Dos still have over a month until their season opener. They’ll face Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 on Saturday, March 25 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium.
LA Galaxy II Season Ticket Memberships are on sale now. With an additional home game added to the 2017 schedule, fans can still become a Los Dos Season Ticket Member for under $100. Season Ticket Memberships purchased prior to February 25th will include an invitation to LA Galaxy’s Annual Season Ticket Member Rally on February 26th, among other benefits.
