CARSON, Calif. – The group seeking to bring Major League Soccer to San Diego unveiled their full plan for a stadium on Monday.

In an event on Monday that included recently re-retired Galaxy forward Landon Donovan, the group revealed their new renderings for the stadium site. The group’s plan is centered in the Mission Valley neighborhood of San Diego and involves replacing Qualcomm Stadium with a 30,000-capacity stadium to be used by an MLS expansion team and San Diego State’s football team as well as other amenities.

According to the San Diego MLS bid committee, the plan for the Mission Valley development will cost an estimated $2.5 billion dollars all of which will be privately financed. The stadium itself will cost an estimated $200 million with the costs being split by the bid group and San Diego State, with the stadium ultimately being gifted to the university.

The potential project also includes the ability to build a separate NFL stadium on the location, in case, a team were to move to San Diego after the departure of the San Diego Chargers to Los Angeles earlier this year.

The next stage in the bid will occur next month as the process begins for a petition campaign, that will require the group to secure 120,000 signatures from San Diego voters by the end of April to display public support for the redevelopment plan.
