LA Galaxy midfielders Jermaine Jones and Sebastian Lletget have been named to the USMNT roster by Head Coach Bruce Arena ahead of two 2018 FIFA World Cup Qualifying matches, U.S. Soccer announced today. The USMNT will face Honduras in San Jose on Friday, March 24 before Panama on Tuesday, March 28 in Panama City.
Jones and Lletget will depart for USMNT duty after the Galaxy’s match this Saturday, March 18 against Real Salt Lake live on Spectrum SportsNet and Spectrum Deportes. (6:30 p.m. PT).
Lletget earned his first-ever call up to the Senior U.S. Men’s National Team earlier this year, making his debut against Serbia before earning his first start against Jamaica in friendly matches. The 24-year-old joined the Galaxy during the 2015 season and has made 42 starts while tallying eight goals and 10 assists in MLS competition.
To date, Jones has made 67 appearances and scored four goals as a USMNT member, including a goal in the 2014 FIFA World Cup against Portugal, since making his debut in 2010. In addition to the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he represented the U.S. at the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2011 and 2015 and the Copa America Centenario in 2016, among other competitions.
“We put together a roster that we think has balance and one that gives us an option in playing a number of different ways,” Arena said. “It’s a roster where the primary rationale is to help us be successful in these two games, but we’re also looking down the road and bringing in some young players that we think have an opportunity to be an important part of the National Team program as well. Our approach to these games is simple: we want to win.”
