The Best of LA Galaxy II in 2016 | #8: LA Galaxy II sign defender Nathan Smith

After three years at UCLA, former LA Galaxy Academy defender Nathan Smith elected to forego his final season with the Bruins and sign his first professional contract with LA Galaxy II.

The decision proved to be the right one for Smith, who excelled in his rookie season with Los Dos before signing an MLS contract with the LA Galaxy ahead of their 2017 season. He made his MLS debut against Portland Timbers on March 12.

After signing for LA Galaxy II in 2016, Smith immediately assumed the role of the team’s starting right back and went on to appear in 24 games throughout the season, helping Los Dos to their third straight playoff appearance.

A former Galaxy Academy standout, Smith also spent time on the international scene with U.S. Soccer’s U-17 National Team, helping them to the FIFA U-17 World Cup, 2011 Generation Adidas Cup and the U-17 CONCACAF Championship where he scored this absolutely bonkers goal.
