LA Galaxy full of praise for rookie Nathan Smith: "He's a small pit bull" | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – The LA Galaxy were full of praise for right back Nathan Smith after yet another strong performance in the team’s 2-0 victory over the Montreal Impact last Friday.

Smith made his second consecutive start at right back in the Galaxy’s win over the Impact appearing quite comfortable in just his fourth appearance in Major League Soccer. Once again stationed behind Romain Alessandrini, Smith proved to be capable on both sides of the ball and drew the highest praise from head coach Curt Onalfo.

“Excellent. I thought he had a really good performance. It’s great to see a young player who played just one year with Galaxy II then gets his opportunity and look what he’s done with it," Onalfo said. "I don’t want to get ahead of myself, but I’m really pleased with his performance and how he’s played. He’s just stepped into that situation like it’s no big deal and he’ll continue to get better.”

Jelle Van Damme also complimented Smith stating that he “looks like a proper soccer player out there,” while Jermaine Jones had a unique commendation for the rookie defender.

“He’s like a small Pit Bull,” Jones said. “He’s going up and down. He’s good, and if he stays how he is right now, he has a future in this league.”
