CARSON, Calif.  â€“ The LA Galaxy moved up the Power Rankings after their 3-1 win over the New York Red Bulls last week.

Romain Alessandrini scored twice and Giovani dos Santos added a goal of his own as the Galaxy extended their unbeaten run to three games. The Galaxy continue their road swing on Sunday when they face Minnesota United.

The explanations behind all three major Power Rankings can be found below:

Let's all give Curt Onalfo a round of applause for what was one of the gutsiest subs in MLS history last week. He yanked Jelle Van Damme, his captain and best defender, as a punitive measure before the break against Chicago, and his team has responded with their three best halves of the season. It was a huge risk – Onalfo could've lost the locker room entirely. Instead it seems like he won his team's attention, and now they're winning points.

The Galaxy needed a big performance after their recent run of bad results, and boy did they ever get one in a 3–1 win away from home at the Red Bulls. Romain Alessandrini had an excellent game, scoring twice and setting up the PK for the third goal. It’s the Galaxy’s first win against a quality opponent this season. They travel to face Minnesota on Sunday.

A win like that, 3-1 on the road in New Jersey where the Red Bulls never lose, could not have come at a better time. Maybe Curt Onalfo's message is getting through.
