LA Galaxy look to beat the heat and the Timbers in scorching Portland on Sunday | INSIDER

PORTLAND, Ore. – The LA Galaxy will need to beat the Portland Timbers and the scorching Oregon heat on Sunday morning at Providence Park.

The Galaxy will face Portland in a must-win match as they look to begin their rise up the Western Conference standings under new head coach Sigi Schmid. They’ll face Portland at 11 a.m. PT after the game was moved ahead two hours due to forecasted temperatures in the upper 90s.

High temperatures in the Southern California area over the last week have aided in the Galaxy’s preparations, but the turf at Providence Park will create difficult playing conditions for Sunday according to head coach Sigi Schmid.

“When you’re playing on turf, whatever temperature in the air, it’s an extra five or 10 degrees warmer on the turf,” Schmid said. “It’s a tough place to play, they’re emotional, they get a good crowd, but we know what we need to do and we can’t care who we’re playing, we need to get points.”
