CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider provides his Three Things We Learned from the Galaxy’s 3-0 win over the Colorado Rapids presented by SNHU.
LA GALAXY RETURN TO WINNING WAYS
It took five months, but the LA Galaxy finally got their second win of the season at StubHub Center on Saturday.
Los Angeles picked up a 3-0 victory over the Rapids on Saturday to give the team their first win at home since April 7. The win was also the team’s first under new head coach Sigi Schmid.
As Schmid seeks to create a foundation for next season, grabbing a much-needed win at home can only help the Galaxy’s confidence heading into the stretch run.
THE LA GALAXY ATTACK COMES ALIVE
The LA Galaxy ended their scoreless streak in style by hanging three goals on the Colorado Rapids to seal the team’s biggest win of 2017.
Romain Alessandrini’s penalty kick finish in the 19th minute halted the team’s scoreless streak at 350 minutes. The tally was Alessandrini’s ninth goal of the seaosn, and his first goal since the Galaxy defeated the Rapids back in June. Once the team broke their duck, the Galaxy quickly added a second five minutes later as Ema Boateng doubled Los Angeles’ lead. Gyasi Zardes added a third in the second half.
Although the postseason remains a pipe dream for the Galaxy, the return of the team’s attacking prowess is a step in the right direction.
THE WAIT IS OVER: GYASI ZARDES SCORES HIS FIRST GOAL OF THE YEAR
The weight is off Gyasi Zardes’ shoulders at long last.
Zardes celebrated his 26th birthday by scoring his first goal of the 2017 campaign in the second half of the Galaxy’s 3-0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. The finish was vintage Zardes as the forward found a way to extend his right leg to redirect a Romain Alessandrini cross into the back of the net. The striker’s finish capped off a solid performance from Zardes who helped the Galaxy open the scoring by winning a penalty early in the first half and tallied an assist on Boateng’s second goal of the evening.
The Galaxy desperately need Zardes to return to form, and his finish can only help the team as they look to gain momentum to close out the year.
