CARSON, Calif. – LA Galaxy Insider Adam Serrano provides his Three Things We Learned from the LA Galaxy’s 4-0 defeat to Toronto FC presented by SNHU.

GALAXY POSTSEASON HOPES LIKELY DASHED

The LA Galaxy still held slim aspirations of reaching the postseason, but Saturday’s defeat to Toronto FC likely puts an end to the team’s hopes.

The heavy loss to Toronto FC places the Galaxy 11 points back of the final Western Conference postseason berth. With the season winding down, the Galaxy will head on the road for the next three games and look to save off mathematical elimination for the time being.

The Galaxy will now play out the final six games remaining on the docket with an eye to next season.

MIKE CIANI MAKES DEBUT FOR LA GALAXY

Mike Ciani had an up-and-down showing in his first appearance for the club on Saturday.

The 33-year-old provided the Galaxy with the physical presence that they have lacked at times since the departure of Jelle Van Damme, while also making several impressive stops to keep Toronto at bay. As solid as Ciani looked at times, he was beat on two plays leading to Toronto goals and failed to bring down a goal kick that resulted in Toronto’s final tally.

With the season winding down, expect to see plenty more game time for the French center back as the Galaxy look ahead to the 2018 campaign.

WHAT NOW FOR THE 2017 LA GALAXY?

The LA Galaxy may be more or less out of the postseason, but there is still plenty to play for this year.

As Schmid looks ahead to next season, the Galaxy boss will now examine his roster and decide which pieces are in his future plans. The remaining matches will be particularly crucial for the Galaxy’s youngsters as they look to impress heading into the 2018 campaign.

As the team plays out the schedule, Schmid will need to see lots of heated competition on the training field and in games as he looks to formulate his roster for next year
