Ashley Cole talks status with the LA Galaxy for the 2018 season | INSIDER

CARSON, Calif. – Ashley Cole wants to return to the LA Galaxy. However, he’s not interested in another losing season.

Cole was one of the silver linings to the LA Galaxy’s dismal 2017 season with 29 appearances as well as one goal and two assists.

Throughout the campaign, Cole was the team's vocal leader, trying to push his squad forward despite suffering the worst year in club history. The veteran Englishman held no punches after the final game of the season, declaring that each player would need to take a hard look and ask themselves “did they give enough this season?”

Cole has stated previously that he hopes to remain in Los Angeles, but the 36-year-old veteran defender believes that things must change at StubHub Center before he signs on for a third season with the Galaxy.

“I just need a little break for my head. I’ve not been used to do this and the season has been hard mentally. I’ll forget about this season and have a think about things,” Cole told LA Galaxy Insider. “I know I can keep going, but to a team that keeps losing every week, I can’t do that. Mentally, I’m drained.”

As for head coach Sigi Schmid's opinion on Cole's status for next season, the Galaxy boss is optimistic.

"All those decisions will be made, but we don't want to tip our hand. Ashley has had a good season," Schmid said. "I like the energy that he brings so hopefully, we'll be able to come to some type of resolution."
