Clement Diop's Senegal defeats South Africa to qualify for the 2018 FIFA World Cup

Senegal

CARSON, Calif. – Clement Diop’s Senegal qualified for their second-ever World Cup on Friday with a 2-0 win over South Africa.

Diop was on the bench as Senegal notched goals from Diafra Sakho and an own goal by Thamsanqa Mkhize to defeat the 2010 FIFA World Cup hosts and send the Lions of Teranga to Russia. Senegal’s qualification is their first since the nation reached the quarterfinals at the 2002 World Cup.

Friday's match was a replay of an earlier World Cup qualifier between the two nations due to match-fixing allegations. Senegal will host South Africa in their final qualification match on Tuesday in Dakar.
