Two former LA Galaxy players among the eight official candidates for U.S. Soccer presidency

CARSON, Calif. -- Two former LA Galaxy players are among the eight candidates for U.S. Soccer's presidency, the federation announced on Wednesday


Ex-Galaxy players Paul Caliguri and Kyle Martino are among the eight applicants who stand for election on Feb. 10 during the during U.S. Soccer’s National Council Meeting in Orlando. Also among the candidates is Kathy Carter, the ex-Vice President, Sales and Marketing of AEG and current President of Soccer United Marketing.


The others named to the official ballot are U.S. Soccer Vice President Carlos Cordeiro, Boston-based attorney Steve Gans, U.S. Women's National Team goalkeeper Hope Solo, New York lawyer Michael Winograd, and former MLS and USMNT legend Eric Wynalda. 


To be included on the ballot, all applicants needed to complete a background check and Submit at least three (letters of nomination on official letterhead from organization members and/or one of three athlete members of the federation's Board of Directors. 


The election will replace the departing Sunil Gulati who has held the position since 2006.
