Mike Magee emotional about reception at jersey unveiling: "The LA Galaxy will always have a special place in my heart"

LOS ANGELES – LA Galaxy fans will always have a place in their heart for Mike Magee, and the legendary forward (and goalkeeper) will always have a place for them in his.

Magee was on hand on Sunday as the Galaxy unveiled their 2018 primary kit in front of a packed house at the Novo in Downtown Los Angeles. Galaxy season ticket members cheered as the 2018 squad revealed the new jersey, but they saved their most unbridled joy for Magee.

After the event, the forward, who won three MLS Cups with Los Angeles, grew emotional when asked about his reception.

“The event was incredible. I don’t think people understand how much this club means to me and what it has done for my life. It’s genuinely hard to put into words,” Magee told LA Galaxy Insider. “You get to come back here and feel the love from the fans and put on the jersey again. It’s special. The Galaxy will always have a special place in my heart. When I got the call to come, I literally just yelled yes on the phone. I’ll do anything for the club, especially given all they’ve done for me. It’s f----- awesome.”

His playing days over, Magee is quick to declare himself one of the team’s most faithful supporters and believes that the 2018 edition of his beloved club is destined for greatness.

“I get this overall sense based on how the Galaxy have always been able to turn things around that they’re mad. Everyone knows that they underachieved last year,” Magee said.  “The fans who are the best in the league won’t accept it, so my overall sense from the guys that I know is that they know last year was unacceptable and they’re going to do right this year. I’m excited. I’m probably one of the biggest fans out there of the Galaxy and I’m excited for it this year.”
