Galaxy II

Match Preview: LA Galaxy II to host Las Vegas Lights FC in first meeting

LA Galaxy II (1-6-4, 7 points) are quickly back in action after earning a hard fought point midweek. Los Dos will face Las Vegas Lights FC (2-3-4, 10 points) for the first time in club history at 7:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, May 26 at StubHub Center Track & Field Stadium. The match will be broadcast live on ESPN+.

With two days rest, LA Galaxy II return home soon after earning a comeback draw against Rio Grande Valley FC. An early goal in the contest put Los Dos down, but Galaxy II continued to create chances throughout the match and were able to convert in the 82nd minute. A perfectly placed through ball from Jean Engola forced the RGVFC goalkeeper off his line and Frank Lopez was there to capitalize on the pass. With an open net and a tight angle, he unleashed a perfect shot into the side netting. This marked Lopez's first professional goal.

On Saturday, Los Dos will face a team they have not played before. Las Vegas Lights are in their inaugural USL season and travel to StubHub Center coming off back-to-back USL regular season losses.

With only nine goals in nine games to start the season, Las Vegas is one of the Western Conference’s lower scoring teams. Currently in an offensive slump, Lights FC have scored just one goal in their last four games. The side is 1-1-1 on the road to start its inaugural season.

LA Galaxy II will be without Efrain Alvarez on Saturday, who was called up by the Mexican Youth National Team earlier this week. Alvarez had taken the league by storm in the weeks leading up to his call-up, racking up six goals in four games before departing for Mexico.
