Lineup Notes

  • America: Hot dogs, fireworks, red/white/blue, beach days, the bright California sun, the LA Galaxy playing at home on July 4. The LA Galaxy return to StubHub Center for the first time in nearly a month when they host D.C. United at home.
  • Head Coach Sigi Schmid will continue with a shorthanded lineup as several key players remain absent due to injury/returning from international duty.
  • Making the start in net is ‘keeper David Bingham, who has made the start in all of the Galaxy’s previous 16 MLS games this season. Bingham is the most famous American David B in LA Galaxy history.
  • Defender Tomas Hilliard-Arce is added into the back line on Wednesday’s contest against D.C., marking his third start of the season. The 2nd overall pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft has looked solid in limited appearances this season.
  • The Frenchman Michael Ciani will make his 11th start of the MLS season for the Galaxy. The Frenchman now has made 16 starts in his LA Galaxy career
  • Norwegian Jorgen Skjelvik will make his 17th start of the season after making a start in every MLS contest this year for the Galaxy. Skjelvik is an athletic and versatile defender who has adjusted well throughout the year.
  • The versatile Dave Romney will make his ninth start of the season while playing out wide against D.C. United. Romney is the first-ever player to sign an MLS contract with LA from LA Galaxy II in USL and has gone on to make 54 MLS appearances in previous years.
  • The 37-year-young Ashley Cole will again captain the side on Wednesday night at StubHub Center in his 14th start of the MLS season.
  • In the center of the field, Perry Kitchen will make his 17th-straight MLS start for the Galaxy, rounding out the trio (Bingham, Skjelvik, Kitchen) of players to start in every Galaxy game this season.
  • MLS veteran Chris Pontius will make his eighth start of the season after contributing to the Galaxy’s attack in recent weeks, including the assist on Ibrahimovic’s opening goal on Saturday. Pontius leads LA with 230 MLS appearances.
  • The youngest player in the Galaxy’s starting lineup, LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Bradford Jamieson IV makes his second-straight start after earning his first start of the year on Saturday.
  • Frenchman Romain Alessandrini is coming off a strong performance in San Jose that saw him score his third goal of the season. In all, Romain now has 16 goals and 13 assists for the Galaxy.
  • Up top is Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who plays soccer well.

Game Notes

  • The Galaxy enter the match with a 6-7-3 record with 25 goals scored and 26 goals conceded this season.
  • All time, the Galaxy are 20-14-10 against D.C. United, including 11-5-5 in matches played at home.
  • This year at home, LA have gone 4-4-0 while scoring 14 goals and allowing 14.
  • D.C. United has won just once at StubHub Center since 2001, going 1-8-5 in their matches played here.
    • In those matches, the Galaxy have outscored United 26-12.
  • The Galaxy have lost just one of their last six games, going 3-1-2 during that span.
  • The Galaxy have scored in nine-straight MLS games, their longest streak since scoring in 25 straight in 2014.

Quick Hits

John Mellencamp Lyrics – Jack and Diane

Little ditty about Jack and Diane

Two American kids growin' up in the heartland

Jack, he's gonna be a football star

Diane's debutante backseat of Jacky's car

Suckin' on a chili dog outside the Tastee Freez

Diane's sittin' on Jacky's lap

He's got his hand between her knees

Jacky say, "Hey Diane, lets run off behind a shady tree

Dribble off those Bobby Brooks slacks

Let me do what I please"

And Jacky say

Oh yeah, life goes on

Long after the thrill of livin' is gone

Oh yeah say life goes on

Long after the thrill of livin' is gone

They walk on

Jacky sits back, collects his thoughts for the moment

Scratches his head and does his best James Dean

"Well then, there Diane, we ought to run off to the city"

Diane says, "Baby, you ain't missin' nothing"

But Jacky say

Oh yeah, life goes on

Long after the thrill of livin' is gone

Oh yeah say life goes on

Long after the thrill of livin' is gone
