LA Galaxy midfielder Efrain Alvarez named to Mexico’s U-17 FIFA World Cup roster

LOS ANGELES (Monday, Oct. 7, 2019) – LA Galaxy midfielder Efrain Alvarez has been named to the 21-man roster by Mexico’s U-17 head coach Marco Antonio Ruiz for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019, Mexico announced on Monday.

Alvarez and Mexico are in Group F in the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 alongside Paraguay, Italy and the Soloman Islands. After opening against Paraguay, they will face Italy (Oct. 31) and Soloman Islands (Nov. 3) to round out group stage play. Should Mexico advance, Alvarez would remain with Mexico for as long as the team remains in the tournament, with the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019 Final set for Nov. 17.

Alvarez, 17, signed a professional contract with the LA Galaxy ahead of this season after featuring last year for LA Galaxy II. This year in MLS, he has made 14 appearances, including four starts, while tallying three assists on the year, including one game-winning assist.

Alvarez and Mexico will travel on Oct. 8 to Buenos Aires, Argentina, to continue their preparation for the tournament.

The LA Galaxy will travel to Allianz Field for a match against Minnesota United in Round One of the Audi 2019 MLS Cup Playoffs on Sunday, Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. PT in a game broadcast live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes. Alvarez will be unavailable for selection until he returns from international duty following the FIFA U-17 World Cup Brazil 2019
